A trio devoted to psychedelic minimalism, Bitchin Bajas are far from newcomers to Portugal’s most attentive live music audiences. From Musicbox to Madeira, from ZDB to Milhões de Festa, the American collective — composed of Cooper Crain (also keyboardist for Cave), Dan Quinlivan, and Rob Frye — has already left its mark on several stages across the country.
Their latest album, "Inland See", follows 2022’s "Bajascillators" and further deepens the band’s immersive and hypnotic dimension. Made up of four extended pieces that function as autonomous organisms while forming a cohesive whole, the record explores subtle distortions of time perception and a near-aquatic sense of flow, where repetition and discovery coexist. Much of the material was written on the road — an unusual process in the trio’s trajectory — and recorded entirely at Electrical Audio, captured live in the studio with no added reverb in post-production, preserving the natural sense of space and the physical interplay between the musicians. The result is an expansive, elemental work that reinforces Bitchin Bajas’ ability to transform minimalism into a deeply sensory experience in a constant state of revelation.
