Black Bombaim

They stole their name from Mão Morta, the bass groove from Sleep, the guitar fuzz from Hendrix, and the locomotive-style drumming from Earthless. Just like the Sex Pistols, with what they stole they created something new and uniquely their own; not a punk van, but a stoner spaceship with only two speeds — orbit and escape — propelling us into the cosmic void where a riff stretched to eternity seems to last just long enough to induce a trance. Masters of what is probably the most fascinating psych rock of national origin, the collective emerged from the vibrant wave of new bands coming out of Barcelos in the late ’90s. Today, with seven albums released and a handful of the most significant collaborations (from Peter Brötzmann to Steve Mackay of the Stooges, from Jonathan Saldanha to Isaiah Mitchell of Earthless), they are considered one of the leading exponents of Portuguese psychedelia.
