"Ghost Hunt are a synth-and-bass duo composed of Pedro Chau (bassist of The Parkinsons) and Pedro Oliveira (once known on the noise circuit as Monomoy and here the band’s electronic alchemist and commander). Their sound manages to blur space-time coordinates, evoking both the outer cosmos of tomorrow and the repetitive East Germany of the ’70s. Formed in 2015, the pair released their self-titled debut the following year on Coimbra’s Lux Records. Since then, they have stepped onto stages such as Reverence Valada, Tremor, and Lisboa Dance Fest, and toured venues across Portugal both on their own and while accompanying screenings of the documentary Tecla Tónica. Last year they performed twice in Spain, first opening for Dutch musician and producer Jacco Gardner and later at the Monkey Week festival.
In May 2020 comes II, released under the Lovers & Lollypops label. It’s impossible to detach Ghost Hunt’s music from the “spatial” or “cosmic” stamp—or from the oft-misused notion of a “musical journey”—when listening to them. The strong kosmische influence is even more present in this new work, which shows that the duo’s sound remains eclectic and always open to new possibilities. The opening track paints a true liftoff into the journey ahead, as if Ghost Hunt were cruising in the lane next to Kraftwerk’s bicycles on some German autobahn. Other moments of II, like Shadow Factory or New Ceremony, could orbit perfectly among the early releases of Mute Records; while in E.V.P., No Exit, and the closing Fugue State, the sonic explorations the band has long delivered live are finally captured on record. These ghost hunters have once again landed in the stratosphere of recorded music, proving that there’s still plenty to be discovered in the far reaches of the cosmos."
