“mā tmutish” (ما تموتش), an Arabic expression meaning “don’t die,” is the debut album by el djinn, released by Lovers & Lollypops. The record emerges from a long, collective, and attentive process developed over several years, in direct dialogue with Palestinian voices.

The album brings together texts, poems, traditional songs, and original recordings performed by Dima Mohammed, Nour El Tibi, Omar Hamad, Samano, Serenah Simao, Serene Issa, and Shahd Wadi, woven into a soundscape that moves across Arabic, Portuguese, and English. The result of a collective research process initiated in 2021, the work places voices at its core, carrying the poetry of memory, loss, care, anger, and persistence.

The compositions were built from Palestinian voices of resistance and honour the mystical and the unseen. In many moments, the music comes after the word, shaping itself to the rhythm of the language, the breathing of the poem, and the weight of silence and noise. The result moves between electronics, sound art, and ritual landscape, creating a space of dense and continuous listening.

The title "mā tmutish" comes from a poem by Omar Hamad, written and recorded in a refugee camp in Gaza during the genocide. Spoken as an intimate instruction and repeated throughout, the phrase runs through the album as an ethical and political axis: an appeal addressed to oneself, to children, to the land, and to memory.

For Lovers & Lollypops, this release represents a clear act of positioning. Joaquim Durães, founder of the label, states: “At Lovers, we do not follow a uniform sonic language. We release records that genuinely excite us, and that is exactly what we felt when we heard this work. In the moment we are living through, we need these beacons of hope. This record is also a small contribution towards shedding light on the genocide taking place in Gaza. There was no other option but to be part of it and to provide a platform for an album like this.”
