By the end of the eight songs on Vox Flora, Vox Fauna, Ece Canlı proves her ability to shorten the distance between the most celestial landscape and the harshest setting. The Turkish artist—currently based in Porto—incorporates her voice into environments that may seem contrasting on paper but come together in harmony through her musical construction. The way Ece Canlı works with her voice pushes forward a constant pulse throughout Vox Flora, Vox Fauna.
She has created soundscapes in other projects—Nooito, Live Low, and Cobra’Coral—but in her solo work, Ece Canlı insists, again and again, that it is still possible to create unique narratives, weaving together ideas from the extremes. That is, she is constantly celebrating the points that connect different styles, drawing on influences and structures from traditional folk, reworking them through an experimental electronic prism, and blending it all with a sense of natural music—sounds that, rather than replicating nature, act as demonstrations of landscapes, climates, and lived environments.
Through this sonic structure, Ece Canlı draws the listener closer into her world. The atmospheres serve as a gateway, while the voice—how she uses it, how she creates languages and composes poetry without linguistic or formal boundaries—is the element that seizes and redirects sensations across these songs, inhabited by the generosity and violence of humanity’s relationship with nature; nature understood as everything that surrounds us, constantly shifting and adapting.
Vox Flora, Vox Fauna resists existing as an album of heaven and hell, of light and darkness, of opposites. Instead, it brings them closer, celebrates them, integrates them into crystalline and vibrant songs. Ece Canlı’s voice is an invitation for the listener to step into this world and become part of it.
